The first stages of pregnancy are always the most exciting. This is the period of time when a woman’s body gives subtle, tell-tale signs that a baby is about to be conceived. The most well-known sign is the sudden feeling of nausea, where the individual is so sensitive to smells that they may find themselves feeling queasy. However, this is not a sufficient indicator as nausea can be felt even if a woman is not pregnant. If, however, a woman is pregnant, she will start to experience other indicators very soon. One such sign is implantation bleeding. 
Implantation bleeding is the sudden loss of blood from the vagina which occurs when the fertilized embryo attaches itself with the uterus wall. It may sometimes be confusing to tell the difference between implantation bleeding and regular menstrual bleeding, because both of them have some distinct characteristics. The time when the bleeding occurs will usually be enough to tell the two types of bleeding apart. Implantation bleeding occurs about a week after a possible conception, which may be a few days earlier than a normal menstrual cycle. Blood from implantation is not very heavy like a ‘period’, but may only be just a little amount of spotting with the color being darker such as brown or even black. This is because of the amount of time it takes for the blood to travel down and out of the vagina. The implantation bleeding length is also dissimilar to menstrual bleeding as it does not last very long, but varies between women. Few may experience it for a few days while others may not even see them for an entire day.
The implantation bleeding length will play a crucial role in specifying whether the blood is caused by implantation or whether it’s just a ‘period’. Though the bleeding may begin slowly with only a few drops of blood, it may continue to heavy bleeding in a few days, which will point towards menstrual bleeding. Furthermore, if the implantation bleeding length is quite long with no change in the texture of the blood or the amount of blood escaping the vagina, it is best to consult a doctor. However, it is always good practice to contact a doctor whenever a woman starts to experience new changes to make sure that the pregnancy is continuing steadily and normally.
