Implantation bleeding is the minor quantities of bleeding that happens when the ovum settles into the uterine walls after fertilization. It can do so because of the menstrual cycle which women undergo. One of the main purposes of the menstrual cycle is to create a mesh of criss-crossing capillaries along the uterine walls, in the form of a lining. This creates a platform for the zygote to sink into, as it connects to the mother’s blood circulatory system. The connection is made by causing a rupture of the blood capillaries, which thereby produces a sizeable quantity of blood to be discharged, known as implantation bleeding. This article will focus separately on menstruation and implantation bleeding, in discreet manners.
Menstruation is the blood discharge that occurs every month for a woman with a normal menstrual cycle. It is the shedding of the uterine wall linings that were created for implantation of the zygote, discharged through the cervical opening along with a large quantity of blood. This process takes place unless there is an implantation occurring of the zygote.
The two have similar properties and therefore can be quite easily mixed up. To the patient expecting pregnancy who misinterprets the implantation bleeding as menstruation, this might mean to her a symbol of a miscarriage, or incapacity to conceive. TO another who is not expecting a pregnancy, implantation bleeding may be falsely interpreted as menstruation.
However, for someone who is not expecting a pregnancy, the patient can misinterpret the menstruation occurring as bleeding during implantation, thereby signifying a failure of the birth control. One the other hand, for someone who is expecting a pregnancy, the menstruation occurring will once again serve as a false alarm for implantation bleeding.
All the above scenarios can cause a lot of stress and mental trauma, and is curious information about menstruation and implantation bleeding.
The correct scenario would be, where the person expecting pregnancy recognizes implantation bleeding for what it is and takes it to be a positive signification of pregnancy, and recognizes menstrual bleeding for what it is and takes it to be a signification of failed pregnancy, conceiving disabilities and threatened miscarriages.
On the other hand, the other correct scenario would be where the person not expecting pregnancy recognizes implantation bleeding for what it is and takes it to be a positive signification of pregnancy, and recognizes menstrual bleeding for what it is and takes it to be a signification of a normal menstrual cycle.
For this, the patient must learn how to recognize the distinct differences between the two. The bleeding that occurs due to implantation happens almost five days after fertilization. Five days is the amount of time taken for the fertilized ovum to travel from the fallopian tubes to the uterine walls and the blood discharged due to rupture of the capillaries to reach the cervical opening.
However, this can be a coincidental symptom since the menstruation too can occur five days after fertilization. Another method of differentiation between the two would be to check for the flow. If the blood has a characteristic flowing quality, it is more often than not menstruation. Hope this answers all questions related to menstruation and implantation bleeding.
