In today’s world of modern technology, women are still thought to be one of the many unsolved mysteries that fill the universe. The many changes and miracles that take place in a woman throughout her life is one of God’s many feats of creation. Pregnancy alone is enough to make any man wonder and be amazed at the capability of the human body. Though the mysteries of the females of the human species have not yet been completely unraveled, mankind has been able to resolve few of them, many of which were unknown by women themselves. One such enigma is spotting before menstruation.
Simply put, spotting means light bleeding that occurs in women when a period is not expected. Spotting is not the same as menstrual bleeding because of the fact that it is very light, much lighter than a period. It also differs in color as it is normally fleshy pink or brown. There are a number of reasons why an individual would experience spotting before menstruation and they are discussed below.
One of the main reasons for spotting to occur before an expected period is ovulation. Ovulation is a normal part of the menstrual cycle where an egg is discharged from the ovary, ready to be fertilized. In most cases, this process goes unnoticed as there are not many significant indicators. However, some women may notice spotting to occur which is a side-effect of ovulation and will disappear in the next few days.
Another reason behind spotting before menstruation is the consumption of birth control pills. It is a well known fact that women who take birth control pills experience a little amount of bleeding or spotting. This is because one of the side effects of birth control pills is spotting, as most pills work by using a combination of hormones which may cause a disturbance and a slight loss of blood. The spotting will disappear within a few months as the body gets used to the medication, or if the individual stops taking the pills altogether. Also, some specific birth control pills are known to be more likely to cause spotting, as the hormones may be stronger in effect.
In some cases, the insurgence of spotting may be a reason for happiness and excitement as spotting is one of the primary indicators of pregnancy, which appears in its primary stages. Couples who are looking forward to becoming parents will find this loss of blood as a sign of happiness; or a sign of danger. This is because spotting may also be caused by an ectopic pregnancy, which is a very serious condition which may pose a threat if it is left unchecked for too long.
No matter what the cause for spotting might be, it is always a good idea to contact a doctor whenever spotting appears. This is important as there may be other causes which may even be malignant and have the potential to cause serious, and even fatal harm to the body.
